The Baldwin County Strawberry Festival is a much-anticipated local tradition held annually on the second weekend of April at Loxley Municipal Park between the hours of 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The Baldwin County Strawberry Festival began in 1987 as a result of a united effort between the Association of Retarded Citizens of Baldwin County (ARCBC) and the Loxley Elementary School. Over the years, it has grown to hosting over 180 arts and craft exhibitors, a dozen different food vendors, an exciting carnival, fun children’s games, an antique auto show, exhibits and live music. And, of course, strawberry shortcake is still best thing at the festival!
In addition to the festival, the Little Miss Strawberry Beauty Pageant is held in March. The pageant is open to second grade girls attending Baldwin County public or private schools. The participants are judged on poise, appearance, and personality by a panel of three qualified adjudicators. Last year, the festival raised over $60,000 for its two beneficiaries: Loxley Elementary School and the Association of Retarded Citizens of Baldwin County (ARCBC). Proceeds from the festival have helped both benefitting organizations to fund daily operations. The festival has become one of the largest of its kind and is considered by many to be one of the best organized festivals in the area and has been a great help to both organizations. Come out with your friends, families and neighbors to have a great time and support these community groups!
