For more than 30 years, Colorfest has drawn thousands of visitors to the quiet little mountain village of Mentone to drink in the cool, crisp mountain air, admire the glory of the fall foliage, and enjoy the festivities of Colorfest. Always held the third weekend in October, the festival combines nightly bonfires, live music, fabulous foods, boutique shopping and, of course, the incredibly talented artists and craftsmen who display their wares along Mentone Brow Park.
The Mentone Area Preservation Association spearheads this event and each year they change things up a bit to help keep the festival fresh by adding new events, such as, a scarecrow building contest, a 5K color run, a town scavenger hunt, the pumpkin patch jubilee and so much more.
Estimated attendance is 5,000 to 8,000 people for the weekend event, which always kicks off on Friday evening with a local fish fry, live music and a campfire and ends late Sunday afternoon. There are continual music acts all weekend long appearing at different locations of the festival, which includes downtown Mentone and the very scenic Mentone Brow Park that overlooks the valley below from almost 1,900 feet above sea level on Lookout Mountain.
