On Saturday, Nov. 1, Seafood, Science & Celebrity will begin with its traditionally sold-out annual “Sustaining Heritage” Gala from 4-8 p.m. at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab Estuarium (101 Bienville Blvd., Dauphin Island, Ala., 36528). This year’s gala will allow guests to see and taste firsthand the creative combination of culinary innovation and Gulf Coast customs, while enjoying live music from Jesse Keith Whitley, son of famed country music stars Lorrie Morgan and Keith Whitley, and his wife Ashlee Hewitt. Guests of the Sustaining Heritage Gala can make a stop in each region to sample a variety of Gulf Coast seafood dishes and Southern drinks from creative guest chefs and local specialty vendors including Tom Houle, Alec Naman, Chris Sherill, Back Forty Beer Company, Bayou Rum, Fisher’s at Orange Beach Marina, Lap’s Grocery & Grill, Lighthouse Café, OK Bicycle Shop, and Wintzell’s Oyster House. Dozens of the region’s best curators that create, make and cook heritage eats and drinks will also promote ways to sustain the Gulf Coast. Guests can rediscover lost traditions, see new ways to enjoy the region’s heritage, and find innovative opportunities to incorporate sustainability into their lives. From local breweries to Mobile Bay oysters shucked on site, the Gala will set the tone for a laid-back Southern weekend.
