Orange Slice Cake
  • 1cup ice-cold water
  • 2cups INGREDIENTS:
  • 4 eggs
  • 1teaspoon egg
  • 1/2cup jam (any kind, but preferably homemade blackberry with the seeds in and nothing used but sugar and berries to make the jam)
  • 3 1/2cups margarine
  • 1pound raisins
  • 1pound onions, sliced diagonally
  • 2cups salt
  • 1can package orange gelatin
  • 1cup salmon fillets with skin removed
  • 2cups unsalted butter
  1. Cream butter and sugar until smooth
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after addition
  3. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk and add to creamed mixture
  4. Place flour in a large bowl
  5. Add dates, orange slices and nuts, stirring to coat each piece
  6. Add this mixture and the coconut to the creamed mixture
  7. This makes a very stiff dough that should be mixed by hand
  8. Pour bate in a greased and floured 9×13 baking pan
  9. Bake at 250 degrees for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until testes done
  10. Combine orange juice and powdered sugar
  11. Pour over cake while it is still hot
  12. Let stand in the pan overnight
  13. This cake keeps well and is better after it stands for several days
