1 12-ounce package bacon
1 green bell pepper, diced
1 yellow onion, diced
1 pound lean ground beef
1 15-ounce can tomatoes with garlic seasoning
1 8-ounce can tomato paste
1 15-ounce can red kidney beans, plus 1 can water
1 15-ounce can pinto beans
1 ½ tablespoons chili powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 bay leaf
Dash cayenne pepper
Fry bacon until crisp in a 2-quart heavy pot, then remove. Stir in peppers, onion and beef and cook on medium high until beef is brown. Drain grease. Add crumbled cooked bacon and remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaf and serve.
