Italian Spaghetti Sauce

1/2 cup onion, sliced
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 pound ground beef
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 1-pound cans tomatoes
2 8-ounce cans seasoned tomato sauce
1 3-ounce jar sliced mushroom, drained
1/4 cup chopped parsley
1 1/2 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon Accent
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1 bay leaf
1 cup water
Sauté onion in oil until golden. Add meat and garlic; brown lightly and drain. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer uncovered for two hours or until desired thickness. Remove bay leaf and serve over pasta. Top with grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
