Pioneer EC
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter-flavored shortening
Ice water
2 cups sugar
4 cups water
1/2 stick butter
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 quart fruit (approximately)
Sift flour and salt; cut shortening into flour. Add a little ice water at a time, stirring with a fork. (Grandma would have used her hands.) Keep adding water until a stiff ball forms on the fork. Roll out on a floured surface, and cut into strips. In a saucepan, mix together sugar, water, butter and vanilla. Heat until sugar dissolves and butter melts. Set aside. In a baking dish, layer strips of dough and fruit sprinkled with cinnamon. Gently pour syrup over all. Bake at 350 degrees until brown.
