Yuletide Coffee Cake Crunch

3/4 cup walnut pieces
1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease 10-inch tube pan. Combine 3/4 cup walnut pieces with 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon in small bowl and set aside. Cream butter with one cup sugar and vanilla in large bowl. Add eggs and sour c ream and stir until just mixed. Add remaining dry ingredients to mixture in a small bowl and gradually add them to butter mixture. Stir in 1/2 cup walnuts. Pour half of batter into pan and sprinkle with half the nut and sugar mixture. Add remaining batter, then rest of nut mixture. Bake 45-50 minutes. Cool and remove from pan.
