Ham, Dried Apples and Dumplings

Ingredients
2 cups dried apples
1 1/2 pounds ham
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Dumplings:
2 cups al-purpose flour
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 cup milk
Directions
Cover dried with water and soak overnight. In morning , cover ham with cold water and cook slowly for three hours. Add the soaked apples and brown sugar. Cook for one more hour.
Dumplings:
Mix together the dry ingredients, then add the egg and butter. Add milk until batter is stiff enough to drop from a spoon. Drop batter by spoonfuls into boiling ham and apples. Cover pan tightly and cook 10 t o12 minutes. Do not lift cover until ready to serve.
