Turnip Greens with Cornmeal Dumplings

1 bunch turnip greens
1/2 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 cup yellow or white cornmeal
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon shortening
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 cup buttermilk (may take less)
1/8 cup chopped parsley
Cook turnip greens in large saucepan in boiling salted water and cover until tender. Remove turnip greens from liquid with slotted spoon, reserving liquid. Place in heated dish. Sift dry ingredients in a small bowl; work in shortening with fork. Combine beaten egg, buttermilk and parsley; add to dry ingredients. Stir until batter is mixed. Drop dumplings by teaspoons into hot reserved liquid. Cover tightly; simmer for 15 minutes. Do not lift cover while dumplings cook. Serve dumplings with turnip greens.
