Shuck and remove silks of fresh corn and wash in cold water. With a think sharp knife, cut tips of grains off corn cobb. Use a dull knife to scrape the juice and pulp out of the corn, leaving the husk attached to the cobb. Cut one eat at a time and finish completely before starting another. Then place the cut corn in a boiler and cook over low heat, stirring often to keep it from scorching. Add about one tablespoon of sugar, one stick of butter and salt and pepper to taste. If the corn becomes too thick or stiff, add a small amount milk. Cook about 10 minutes. Cooking too long spoils the flavor. Eat like this or, for a change, you can add a tablespoon of flour and stir it in, cooking slowly a few minutes to make the corn more creamy. Add milk or water as needed if it becomes too thick.
