Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
5 tablespoons butter or shortening
3/4 cup buttermilk
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Grease a cookies sheet. In a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. With a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter or shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. With a large spoon stir buttermilk into dry ingredients until dough is just moist enough to hold together. On a floured surface, roll out dough to 3/4 inch thickness. Cut with a 2-inch round biscuit cutter dipped in flour. Place biscuits on a prepared sheet. Re-roll scraps and cut more biscuits. Bakes 10 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 12 biscuits.
