Real Butterscotch Pie

3 tablespoons butter, not margarine
2 cups light brown sugar
4 tablespoons milk
3 beaten egg yolks
4 tablespoons flour
2 cups milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
Brown butter in a heavy saucepan. Add sugar and 4 tablespoons milk. Cook to the consistency of taffy. Mix egg yolks, flour, 2 cups milk and salt. Add this mixture to first mixture and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Pour into a 9-inch baked pie shell and let set.
