Ingredients
Filling:
1 quart fresh blackberries
1/4 cup sugar
Topping:
1 cup white cornmeal, medium grind
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Sauce:
1/4 cup wild honey
1 tablespoon melted butter
Juice of 1 lemon
Directions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Put the berries into a shallow baking dish (I use a ceramic dish about 2 inches deep and 12-by-12 inches square) and sprinkle them with sugar. In a small bowl, mix the cornmeal, sugar, baking powder and salt. Then stir in the milk and melted butter. Using a large spoon, drop this mixture onto the berries and spread it rather roughly, leaving some of the berries exposed. Mis the sauce and dribble it over the pie. Put the pie into the middle of the oven and bake it for an hour. Let cool to room temperature before serving.
