Vegetable Beef Soup

1 pound ground beef
1 small onion, diced
1 10-ounce bag frozen mixed vegetables
1 large can crushed or whole tomatoes
3 small potatoes, cubed
1 small can tomato sauce or paste
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
3 to 4 cups water
Brown ground beef and onion and drain. Add all remaining ingredients. Cook slowly for 2 hours. More or less water may be added depending on desired thickness.
