| Sauce: 4 tablespoons butter 1/2 cup chopped onion 4 teaspoon sugar Few grains pepper 4 tablespoons flour 1 quart tomato juice 1 teaspoon salt Dumplings: 2 cups flour 4 teaspoons baking powder 1 cup grated cheddar cheese 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup milk |

| Sauce: Melt butter and saute onions until golden. Blend in flour, add tomato juice, sugar, salt and pepper. Mix well and bring to boil. Dumplings: Sift flour, baking powder and salt together; cut in 1/2 cup of grated cheese and add milk. Roll out like biscuits; cut with cutter. Place a teaspoon of grated cheese on dumplings; place another dumpling on top. Seal edges together and drop into boiling sauce. Simmer covered 15 to 20 minutes. Serve over dumplings. |
